Rio Tinto Group (

) is
deploying
the world’s first fully autonomous water trucks, designed by Caterpillar (
NYSE:CAT
), at its $2.6 billion Gudai-Darri iron ore mine in Western Australia’s Pilbara region, allowing for the enhancement of productivity “by enabling mine operations to digitally track water consumption and reduce waste.” Rio’s Chief Executive of Iron Ore, Simon Trott, said:
“We have worked closely with Caterpillar to safely and successfully deploy the world’s first fully autonomous water truck. Water spraying is a vital part of mining operations and this new technology will improve productivity and reduce water usage across our operations. The continued expansion of our autonomous fleet helps improve safety and continues Rio Tinto’s efforts to adopt world-leading technology to enhance our operations and realise our vision of making Gudai-Darri one of the world’s most technologically advanced mines.”
Maritime Resources Corp. (

) has
reported
drill results from its ongoing 40,000m exploration program at the Hammerdown Gold Project, and its Whisker Valley Property, in the Baie Verte Mining District of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The company’s President and CEO, Garett Macdonald, said:
“Drilling at Orion North continues to intersect high-grade mineralization over narrow widths. This new zone of mineralization has now been traced over 550 m in strike length to a depth of 100 m below surface. We are encouraged to see continuity and multiple new high-grade veins being intersected in shallow, broadly spaced exploration holes as we test the gap between the Hammerdown and Orion Deposits. As drilling continues to test this minimally explored corridor, there is a strong probability for the discovery of additional mineralized veins. At Whisker Valley our initial exploration program completed in 2020 successfully traced gold mineralization over a strike length of 1,000 m and to depths of 150 m below surface. It is common for narrow vein gold deposits to pinch and swell and we will be focused on locating wider zones that may be amenable to extraction.”
Desert Gold Ventures Inc. (
TSXV:DAU
) has
announced
the completion of over 82 percent, or over 230 holes comprising 16,400 metres of drilling, of its planned 20,000m drill program. The company aims “to discover a tier 1 gold deposit associated with the regional-scale, gold-bearing structural systems that pass through the SMSZ Project,” which itself has been discovered to have over 20 gold zones and which this year’s exploration data suggests even more to be discovered.
Gold79 Mines Ltd. (
TSXV:AUU
) has
announced
that, following positive results from initial mapping and sampling in 2021, it has significantly expanded its land package with the staking of 171 new claims. The company’s President and CEO, Derek Macpherson, said:
“The mapping and sampling completed in 2021 continues to suggest that the scale of mineralization is much larger than previously thought, as such, the Company moved aggressively to double its land position in the North Oatman District. Gold79 now controls approximately 12km of altered and mineralized rocks in this trend, coupling scale potential with solid historical exploration results.”
